About Patti

Patti Taft Lovitt, a painter, drawer and poet, worked alone, steadfastly and with discipline.  Patti's nature was to be a sensitive, quiet, keen observer.  Central to her work was human interior life.  Her figurative works were not portraits, but were intended to communicate the inner life of her subjects.  With a subtle, muted palette, and a restrained use of materials, maximum information is conveyed through minimal visual effort.  Her paintings and spare drawings reflect her constant search for the subtext within the qesture.

The business of art was not her major concern.  Consequently, aside from numerous pieces selected and shown in juried shows, only fragments of her work were adequately exposed.  This site presents a sample of her creative legacy and is dedicated to her family and friends who may be surprised to finally see what Patti was up to during this intense chapter of her life (1977 - 1994)
